What a forex Expert Advisor actually does
A forex robot or Expert Advisor is software that applies programmed trading logic. On MetaTrader, an EA can monitor market conditions and, when enabled and configured to do so, automate trading actions.

Automation is not prediction
An EA executes rules. The fact that rules can be automated does not establish that those rules will remain profitable. Market conditions, spreads, slippage, configuration and strategy design all matter.
What to learn before using one
Understand the strategy, instruments and timeframes; know how risk and position sizing are configured; test on historical data; observe forward behavior; and know how to stop the system if its behavior diverges from expectations.
